From the twisted mind of Charlie Brooker, Netflix's Black Mirror has an eerie and uncanny knack at predicting the future—which is not necessarily a good thing, considering the series’ ongoing dystopian undercurrent.
Several episodes from the anthology have borne a genuine resemblance to real-life events; the cartoonish political figure in The Waldo Moment is an uncomfortable look at how big personalities can lure voters and create a new world order that does eventually lead to anarchy, webcam hackers like those in Shut Up and Dance are no longer a thing of fiction, and the robot dogs of Metalhead are now real inventions (even if they are yet to develop an insatiable blood lust).
Season seven is set to be as bleak and brilliant as ever, with Brooker explaining that he’s returning to the ruthless, grimy feeling of earlier series, before Black Mirror received the gleaming Netflix polish (and budget).
An impressive cast will join or reprise their roles for Black Mirror’s seventh outing
“It’s a little bit OG Black Mirror,” he recently told Tudum. “They’re all sci-fi stories, but there’s definitely some horrifying things that occur—but maybe not in an overt horror-movie way. There’s definitely some disturbing content in it.”
As always, Black Mirror features an ensemble cast, with both Hollywood A-Listers and the crème of the British acting sphere all featuring.
